Fans of Johnny Manziel in the Lone Star state are wondering what's next for the former Texas A&M football star. The ex-Cleveland Browns quarterback was indicted Tuesday on a misdemeanor assault charge, stemming from an alleged fight with his ex-girlfriend. Our John Garcia was in Kerrville talking to people who knew him before he was famous, hoping the Heisman Trophy winner will get back on track.

KERRVILLE, Texas -- Fans of Manziel are reacting to his indictment, and fall from grace.

People in Kerrville, where the 23-year-old attended high school, say they're disappointed with him.

"Well, it doesn't look good on Kerrville. You know, because he came from here and could've been something big, and threw it all away," said Jessica Smyrson of Kerrville.

Before playing for Aggies, and then going pro, Manziel was the star of his Kerrville-Tivy team.

"He was, you know, a magic person in my opinion. The way he could move on the field," said Hunt resident Doug Hill.

"Johnny is just a little bit of history that was here," said Roxyann Baldwin of Kerrville.

Some are optimistic he will turn his life around.

"The good comes with the bad. So, you know, it's unfortunate you can't have all good, you can't have all bad. But, it's just a tough situation," said John Fleckenstein of Kerrville.

"It's a shame that, you know, he's got so much talent. And I feel sure that he'll someday find his way and get past all this," said Hill.

Others said they don't think they'll be rooting for Manziel anytime soon.

"Just understand that it's not acceptable to hit any woman, or anybody," said Baldwin.

"I think it's sad for the whole situation. You know, for him, for her. For all of it -- everybody involved," said Smyrson.

While Manziel may never play in the NFL again, he needs a Hail Mary to save what remains of his professional career.

Manziel's attorney says the former NFL quarterback will plead not guilty to the misdemeanor assault charge.

If convicted, he faces up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
