Winston-Salem, N.C. - Jared Easter loves skate boarding. He and his father are from Virginia where there are not too many places for Easter to skate. They sometimes drive hours so he can get in some practice.

"I wouldn't be doing much if I wasn't skating,” said Easter. “I skate all the time."

The duo drove an hour to be at Saturday's ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrating a new skate park in Winston-Salem.

Mayor Pro Tem, Vivian Burke, said it’s been a 20 year battle to get this skate park open in Winston Salem. She said it will pay off for the city's youth.

"Beautiful experience,” said Burke. “It gives them another place to go that will be positive and safe."

Burke adds that the $450,000 investment is well worth it for the city's younger citizens.

The skate park has various ramps and rails for skateboarders and BMX riders to shred.

"There were a group of people coming downtown who wanted to do skateboarding,” explained Burke. “They were doing it downtown which was not quite safe."

Jared Easter gives his stamp of approval of the city's latest project. He says it’s worth the hour drive into Winston-Salem.

"I like the up-rail, I like the pump track,” said Easter. “I like the hip over the quarter. It’s just really smooth, I like it!"

The park opens at 9 AM and closes at dusk daily.
