KING -- Hundreds of students are pitching ideas for a one-of-a-kind playground in the King community.

"Design day is a very, very special day that I get to meet with the kids and talk with them about their ideas and brainstorm," said Lisa DeShano with Play by Design.

Play By Design is picking the students' brains to create the perfect place to play. The possibilities incorporate swings, monkey bars, tree houses and even some of the area's best features.

"The King Cabin, the mountains especially. And when I asked the kids, I said, 'Well, what do you like about King? What do you like to do here?' And they would scream, 'The mountains are really special,'" said DeShano.

The builders have a working budget of $300,000. The idea is to get the community rounded up to build the dream playground at King Recreation Acres.

"That's going to save us some money by using local people to help build, and it's a build that will last from a Monday through a Sunday, and it's 100 percent funded through donations and fundraisings," said Sonya Cox, Stokes County Board of Education Chair.

The students have already had some volunteers in mind.

"They had screams, 'Well, my dad can because he's a builder. My papa can because he can build anything. My mom can because she takes care of all of us, so she can help too.' So they truly connected to the true spirit of this community build," said DeShano.

The organization has built hundreds of playgrounds worldwide, but designers say none are the same as what's coming here.

"There's no other playground like this one in the world. This is their chance to create something special here in King," said DeShano.

In about two weeks, the City of King will get a list of materials and final budget to begin fundraising efforts.
