ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A historic building downtown is once again illuminatinig the skies of Rochester.
The Times Square Building's "wings of progress" are shinning bright after 10 years of being in the dark. Built in 1929, architect Ralph T. Walker designed the wings on top of the former Genesee Valley Trust building. Time Warner Cable News got an exclusive look at the wings from the top floor.
Throughout the great depression, the wings were lit to let everyone know the bank was still prospering and that the city will once again rise. Almost 90 years later, the wings of progress are doing just that again for Rochester.
"It's the beginning of downtown again. Downtown is rising, it's risen. No doubt, downtown is on fire. And I think lighting these wings again, will show everybody that it's worth spending your time, effort and money downtown. And, other people are following suit," said Richard Calabrese Jr., building owner.
Each wing weighs 12,000 pounds and soars 49 feet into the sky.
