TOBIN HILL—Freelance business owners are starting their companies through The Workery, a one-stop shop that serves as a work space for entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurship can be tough for people that don’t have an office, which is how The Workery started for Sally Robertson and Mari Aguirre-Rodriguez.

"We are both freelancers and we were always working out of coffee shops,” Robertson said.

They noticed a lot of freelancers were doing the same thing. Once they got the house, the rest was history.

"You can come in, use your laptop, take a conference call,” said Robertson.

Since opening in January, 50 business owners call The Workery their office.

"They're non-profits, they're videographers, they're grant writers, they're PR and marketing professionals. They really do everything, they're the engine that keeps San Antonio small business community moving forward,” Rodriguez said.

With so much energy in one place, they're able to attract other homegrown business owners like Hillary Martin, who is a homegrown business owner and CEO of Impact Payroll Systems.

"As women we wear so many hats. I'm a mom, a volunteer, a business owner. I love doing what I do, I love talking to other business owners. I love being able to explore all of the different worlds that I have,” said Martin.

Some Workery members have set up permanent offices while others come and go.

"You can be a member for thirty days or years at a time. I think most importantly, they're just happy to have a community,” said Rodriguez.
