MCLEANSVILLE --The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department is working to update Keeley Park's master plan. This month, they'll hold several community conversations, giving you the chance to provide some feedback.

It's been up and running for about five years, but some say it remains one of the Triad's hidden gems.

“Not a lot of people know about it," said Tony Royal, park supervisor. "We're not flooded. I have my usual walkers that walk everyday, people bring dogs. The busy time is between Memorial Day and Labor Day."

But now that Keeley Park's master plan is almost 10 years old, the Parks and Recreation Department is calling on the public to help take Keeley Park into the future through a series of community conversations this month.

“Now is your opportunity to tell us what you'd like to see," said Vonda Martin, park planner. "It's not like we can do everything, but it's important to us, and we use that information to shape how we develop our facility."

Royal added, “We’ve heard more walking trails, shelters, add to the spray ground. Those are comments we've heard from citizens."

The department says now that the park is five years old, some changes are needed to reflect the community's needs, while preserving the park's natural resources.

“A lot has changed in the area with the Urban Loop coming through," said Martin. "Demographics have changes in the area, so with that plan being almost a decade old, we want to make sure we're doing our due diligence and not going by that 10 year old plan and go in a different direction."

And while Parks and Recreation officials are waiting for public input, they're also waiting for spring.

Once temperatures warm up, the department will start construction on a "Pump Track," a training track for mountain bikes made possible by a $25,000 grant.

Construction on that should only take about a month.
