KERNERSVILLE -- The severe weather that hit the state Wednesday caused lots of damage, including a downed tree in Kernersville.

The homeowner, Frank Fox, said he wasn’t home when the Oak smashed the roof.

“It's not good, I'm having a bad day."

Fox’s wife was inside when the tree fell but said she suffered a few scratches.

“The ceiling fell and hit her,” he said. “To not be more injured than she was, she's pretty lucky."

Their misfortune though adds to the big business tree removal services get after strong storms roll through the area.

"This is the fifth call I've been to today,” said Outdoor Exposure owner, Scott Saintsing.

Saintsing said his company received more more than 25 calls and sent workers all over the Piedmont Triad.

“Some of that was people who had been effected,” he said. “We get a lot of calls from people that all of sudden, they see the wind is up and, they have a tree that they know they should've taken care of, so they call and want to schedule something."

When storm damage causes downed trees, Saintsing said companies become competitive to remove the mess.

"Since we've been out here, a couple of tree services have rode by, a lot of it comes down to reputation."

Saintsing said the Fox’s tree fell because of root decay coupled with ground saturation and strong winds.
