GREENSBORO -- It's been three years in the making, but the staff from the Surgical Center of Greensboro had a reason to celebrate Saturday. John Byers, the Surgical Center of Greensboro’s medical director, said it’s a dream coming true.
"You see the stakes in the ground,” said Byers, “Now this really going to happen. Wow, after all our hardwork, it seems to be a reality."
The ground has been leveled and now crews can start building the 60,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art surgical center.
Currently the staff shuffles back forth between two buildings. The consolidation of the facility and upgrades will benefit everyone that walks through the doors of the new facility.
"We'll have 13 operating rooms and two procedure rooms," said Jennifer Graham, an administrator for the center.
They’ve chosen an architect, someone to help them with designing and a builder.
The current facility was built in the 1980s. It serves more than 14,000 patients a year. Graham says the community is well overdue for a new center. Now its just a waiting game until they can move into their new home.
The center is expected to be completed by the Spring of 2017.
