GREENSBORO -- A four-day grand opening celebration for Field & Stream kicked off in Greensboro, Thursday. The specialty retail store catering to hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts just opened its second location in North Carolina.
It’s also opening a store in Asheville, which will be the company's 17th location nationwide.
"My husband has been so excited that he's been beside himself," said Greensboro resident Cheri Wilson.
Wilson said she and her husband do a lot of fishing, so they were both glad to hear about the store opening close to home.
"I think I like it better than some of the other sporting goods stores," said Wilson. "They have more in the line of fishing than what I've been seeing, and I did notice that the fishing tackle and lures here are really good."
Employees said they've already had a great response from the community.
"They've been supportive of our brand," said Field & Stream Community Marketing Specialist Bill Gasior.
Gasior said just one of the unique things that draws customers to the store is the 25-yard indoor archery range where people can practice their shot or even work with an on-site archery tech.
"We like to make sure the customer has every opportunity to work with one of our field techs,” said Gasior. “All of the associates here are just as passionate as our customers are."
Even those uninterested in what the store offers outdoor enthusiasts can appreciate something else it's bringing to the area: jobs.
"We hire about 100 part time and full time associates," said Gasior.
Those employees are hosting events throughout the weekend.
"On Friday, we are going to have A&E’s "Swamp People" here, Troy and Jacob Landry, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., signing autographs. On Saturday, we're going to have Jep Robertson from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. He's from A&E’s "Duck Dynasty." And then on Sunday we're going to have the Hunt, Cast and Pitch Youth Challenge, which is open from ages 6 to 15."
For this weekend's meet and greets, wristbands are required. They will be given out on a first-come first serve basis.
