EDEN, N.C. -- It has been a drier day for parts of the state on Wednesday. But the wet weather earlier this week caused some significant flooding in parts of Rockingham County.
Rain, rain and more rain saturated parts of North Carolina earlier this week.
Last night in Eden, business owners along waterways worried about washouts.
"You can stand on the bank and look down and see the river," said David Fagge, T&D Smoke Shop Owner. "My landlord came in and put 27 loads of dirt in and that all washed away."
Proof of that mess remained as the sun rolled up Wednesday morning.
And although a much dryer situation now -- floodwaters still sit much higher than what folks are used to.
"I think about taking my son here to play soccer," said Jackie Durham, Eden Resident. "Running around here to have a picnic and now you can hardly see the picnic tables."
But for those new to North Carolina -- the flooding doesn't seem that bad so far.
"This is not rattling me at all, Ohio gets flooding all the time, pipes busting," said Emmie Mitchell, Ohio Resident. "North Carolina doesn't get weather like that."
Emmie Mitchell was on one of the last flights out of New Orleans before Katrina hit.
Seeing the devastation after landing back home is something she says she'll never forget.
"Our pilot was in the caravan from the hotel with us, had he gotten there on time, we would have missed our flight," said Mitchell.
But with more rain in the forecast for this week, those who live near the Dan and Smith rivers in Eden say they're worried for the worst.
"It's sad to think of people getting run out their homes from the rain," said Durham.
