ROBESON COUNTY—Another Fourth of July tradition is the 47th annual Lumbee homecoming in Robeson County.

One of the final events of the weeklong celebration is a parade in Pembroke.

Thousands of people lined the streets to watch the floats, trucks and other things pass by. but the annual homecoming is about more than just a parade on Independence Day. It is the one time each year when many of these Native Americans return to the place where they were born and raised. It is a chance to rekindle old friendships and celebrate native culture.

"They come from Detroit all over the country. They gather up this one time of year and meet and greet, just have a good time,” said William Kline.

The Lumbee homecoming concluded Saturday night with a big fireworks display.
