KERNERSVILLE—Two U.S. representatives tour the Fed Ex Ground Hub Tuesday in Kernersville to find bi-partisan solutions to issues in their districts and learn more about area employers.
Alma Adams and Mark Walker visited the 580,000 square foot facility that opened in 2011. It employs about 740 people and processes 30,000 packages per hour.
"Our purpose was to learn more about the entire metrics of the Fed Ex corporation and how it really combines safety with a successful business model,” Walker said.
While walking around, the two also commented about FedEx and other companies asking Congress to support the transport funding bill with language that would extend each truck trailer on a double hookup from 28 to 33 feet. Companies argue less trucks would be on the road and less fuel would be used if passed.
"I'll be open to hearing all sides of this particular issue, as long as we keep our highways safe,” Adams said.
Adams and Walker also toured Volvo's Greensboro campus back in February.
