Autopsy results released Sunday afternoon of Richard Matt show the convicted killer who escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility on June 6 died of severe skull fractures and brain injuries due to gunshot wounds to the head.

The preliminary report revealed that a member of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Tactical Unit fired several rounds Friday from a semi-automatic weapon striking Matt in the head three times.

An examination revealed that Matt had bug bites, blisters and minor abrasions consistent with living in the woods for the last three weeks.

A law enforcement source told Time Warner Cable News DNA of David Sweat, the other killer who escaped prison, was found near the area where Matt was killed.

Police continue to hunt for Sweat in remote sections of Franklin County.
