SILER CITY, N.C. -- One woman is dead and her husband hospitalized after an airplane crashed this morning at the Siler City Airport.
Barbara and Fred Para were the only people aboard.
The airport’s assistant manager, Ben Marion, has known Barbara for nearly five years.
He said she is a very experienced pilot and she was even licensed to fly with only her instrument panel to guide her.
“She is IFR rated and I think Fred is too, but I wouldn’t square to that,” said Ben Marion, the assistant manager of Siler City Municipal.
The single engine plane is a Beechcraft Bonanza.
It has room for six people and allows two pilots to fly side by side.
The NTSB is still investigating the crash.
Fred Para is listed as stable at UNC Hospitals.
