GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A well known restaurant in the Triad  will close its doors at the end of the month.

Bonnie Kay Seafood in Greensboro announced it'll stop service after 58 years.

“It's very sad because it's the end of an institution,” said customer, Joan Wall.

Tina Oliver, who owns the restaurant with her sister Bonnie Oliver, said it was a tough decision that was debated for months.

“Basically it's economics, trying to maintain a model of a seafood camp which means bringing a lot of people, putting a lot of food on the plate at a reasonable price; with seafood that's getting harder and harder to do,” Oliver said.

Bonnie and Tina’s parents opened  the restaurant in 1957 near the Pleasant Garden community. It originally seated 40 and then expanded over the years to accomodate more than 200 customers, including NASCAR legend, Richard Petty.

“He was actually here with Kyle with 14 others a few days ago,” Oliver said.

Bonnie Kay Seafood is open 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. It's last day of business will be June 27.
