An FDNY firefighter has been identified in a deadly crash on Long Island.
Suffolk County Police say 30-year-old Timothy Melia was driving in Middle Island when he failed to properly navigate a turn.
They say his car slammed into a utility pole and flipped on its side.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Melia was an eight year veteran of the fire department, working in Engine Company 332 in East New York, Brooklyn.
Before joining the department, he also did multiple tours of duty in the US Marine Corps.
Melia leaves behind a wife and four young children.
A "Go Fund Me" page has been set up for his family.
