GREENSBORO -- A Greensboro ice cream parlor is feeling the recall of Blue Bell ice cream. The threat of listeria has left Ozzie's Ice Cream with empty freezers and no customers.
"We pulled in and we were disappointed to see that Ozzie's was closed today. These girls were really hoping to get some ice cream," said mom Emily Faucher.
Ozzie's ice cream serves up a customer favorite treat, Blue Bell Ice Cream.
"We have been carrying the Blue Bell Ice Cream since we opened last summer. Our desire is to create a simple a very hometown feel ice cream shop where folks can come and enjoy and hang out and slow the pace of life a little bit," said Adam Greer, Ozzie's Ice Cream owner.
But Blue Bell recalled all of its products after several people in Kansas and Texas tested positive for listeria.
"We're taking inventory. Obviously, everything used for ice cream will be sterilized, we do that daily regardless. But that will be sterilized as well just to ensure safety for the next brand of ice cream we bring in," said Greer.
Blue Bell's President and CEO Paul Kruse said in a statement:
"We’re committed to doing the 100 percent right thing, and the best way to do that is to take all of our products off the market until we can be confident that they are all safe. We are heartbroken about this situation and apologize to all of our loyal Blue Bell fans and customers."
Ozzie's will remain closed until they can find a replacement ice cream. But their loyalty to Blue Bell hasn't changed.
"Our hope is to return to Blue Bell. Our customers really like it. I trust them at this point they will find the source of the issue and correct that so, time will tell," said Greer.
The owners of Ozzie's are looking to get new ice cream in by Thursday to open Friday.
