GREENSBORO -- A new retailer reopened the doors on Saturday at the former Bridford Parkway Kmart building, bringing business and jobs to Greensboro.
Hundreds lined up outside fashion retailer, Gabe’s, for its grand opening.
“I was up at 7 o'clock this morning getting ready,” said Ladonna Fox, a shopper. “There was a line here to Cancun."
Shoppers said the opening is a welcomed change after a string of businesses closed in that shopping plaza over the last few years.
“We needed something for all the people around here and new jobs,” said Penny Roland, a shopper.
Kmart closed its doors in the fall of 2014 and with it went almost 100 jobs.
Gabe’s announced soon after it would move into the location and held hiring events last month to fill a 170 positions.
“It makes me feel actually secure, it makes me feel like there's a little bit of hope and there are jobs out there for people who want to work,” said Shawn Jackson, an employee of Gabe’s.
This is one of the first two Gabe's locations to open in North Carolina. Another opened Saturday in Gastonia.
The company also owns Rugged Wearhouse.
