TARBORO, N.C. -- Police are investigating a series of shootings that left four people dead, including the suspect.
Police said that Ian Sherrod, 40, shot and killed George Dickens Jr., 34 at Master's Touch Barber Shop on West Saint James Street. They were then called to a mobile home park in Tarboro where they found the bodies of Ana Cruz-Franco, 28, and Victor Sanchez, 36.
Sherrod was killed by police after refusing to drop his weapon when he was approached by officers.
Friends of the victims said they are in shock.
"When you get the news, it's like, is this really true? When you have his family calling you and telling you that it's true, it's a feeling that you... I can't event explain it," said Brandon Richardson, a friend of the victims.
One Tarboro police officer and one Edgecombe County sheriff's deputy involved with Sherrod's shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave per standard procedure.
The State Bureau of Investigation is now assisting with the case.
