WILMINGTON, N.C. -- UNC-Wilmington's interim chancellor William Sederburg says he supports the university's board of trustees decision to cut several athletic programs.

This comes after students rallied to change the university's decision to cut men's and women's outdoor track and field, women's indoor track and field, and men's cross country.

Sederberg says it doesn't make financial sense to keep the programs and the measures are necessary for the long-term financial health of the athletics department.

The school says in order for them to meet the requirement of the NCAA, they will add women's sand volleyball in the fall.
