For about a month, the team at Starbright Floral Design in Chelsea, Manhattan have been preparing for Mother’s Day — one of the busiest days in the year for the floral business.

They purchased at least 25,000 stems of flowers from farms for Mother’s Day weekend orders.

“It’s one of my favorite days to see people out on the streets. It’s dads, little kids, flowers and it’s all about mom,” Nic Faitors, senior partner of the Starbright Floral Design, said.

But this year, new tariffs could make your Mother’s Day bouquet a bit more expensive.

Eighty percent of all cut flowers sold in the United States are imported from countries like Colombia, Canada or Ecuador, and accessories like ribbons and vases are also imported.

Industry groups say this could drive up the price of a bouquet by up to 10%.

“Up until now, we’ve been able to absorb it. We don’t feel the pressure of changing our business model, but after the holiday we’re gonna see how it goes,” Faitos said.

“People love flowers. I don’t expect the flower business to have a downward turn, but I do anticipate that there will be some prices affected,” he added.

Alex Druif is working, but he said getting his wife a beautiful bouquet was a priority for him.

“It’s very important to acknowledge Mother’s Day. I’m working a lot. I’m working later on, but I’m like, let me get some beautiful flowers,” he said.

He brought his daughter Anna Druif along for some help.

“I think flowers are really special for Mother’s Day and to make her day even better, we thought to get her flowers. It means a lot to her,” she said.
