LOS ANGELES — An investigation was underway Wednesday after two people were found dead at a homelessness encampment in the Westlake District, including a woman whose body had been partially mauled by dogs.

The woman's body was found inside a tent, and the man's body was discovered nearby at an encampment along Huntley Circle, according to reports.

It was unclear when the bodies were discovered.

Neighbors who live near the encampment say they have expressed concerns to the city, but no changes have been made.

In a statement to Spectrum News, the Council District 1's deputy director of communications said:

"This is a horrific and unacceptable tragedy and our hearts are with the victims and their loved ones. Our office is working closely with City departments and community partners to respond to this incident and ensure impacted communities have the resources they need. Councilmember Hernandez remains committed to ending the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles by working urgently to bring people indoors to access lifesaving care and services."

The county Medical Examiner's office identified the woman as 46-year-old Lucrecia Macias Barajas.

The man's name has not been made public.

It was unclear what led to the deaths.
