Time Warner Cable News highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment "App Wrap." Time Warner Cable News’ Adam Balkin filed the following report.
Chosen
Think “American Idol” or “The Voice,” only it’s on your mobile device and you are the one sitting in the judge’s chair, helping choose who the next big musical talent may be. Or if you’re the one performing, no need to stand on endless lines waiting for your golden ticket. It is a new app called Chosen.
“Musicians and performers compete, and you, as the spectator, are actually competing in a game as well. You’re working as a judge and playing in a series of games to prove your expertise at spotting talent," says David Hyman of Chosen.
That is a broad overview. There is a lot to this, but at its core, you, as a judge, are served up a group of performers. You choose which you think sounds best, and then you get points if your vote aligns with the popular vote. On the flip side, if you’re a musician, you throw some of your best stuff up and get yourself judged and critiqued by the masses. Chosen, which is free, is an iOS only app launching as invitation only.
The first 500 of our viewers though who use the promo code 111 can access the app immediately.
Nintendo 3DS XL
What makes Nintendo’s 3DS XL new? A few things, but the big change users of the old 3DS will notice is that unlike the original, where you had to keep the device in one spot in order to experience the glasses-free 3D effect, this one uses on board cameras to track your eyes. That way, no matter what angle you are looking from, you are seeing 3D. The new device also has the little gray button up top, which acts like a second analog stick for things like changing your perspective. In addition, the device has NFC support for Nintendo amiibo figures. Nintendo’s new 3DS XL is out now for $200. And if you don’t have one, you will have to spring for a charging cable. For some reason, it does not come with one in the box.
