Jenna Barnes is a reporter for Spectrum News in our Charlotte newsroom.

A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, she is thrilled to be back in the South after spending many cold winters up north.

Jenna comes to Spectrum News from the Windy City. There, she attended graduate school at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

Politico named Jenna one of “the future’s best and the brightest.”

Before attending Medill, Jenna received a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Boston University.

When she's not chasing news leads, Jenna loves getting out and exploring her new home.

Here are five other things you might not know about Jenna:

  1. I was bitten by the news bug during a third grade trip to CNN in Atlanta.
  2. I met President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama as a scholarship recipient at the 2012 White House Correspondents' Dinner.
  3. I once rode down China's Yellow River in a pig skin raft.
  4. I learned how to shoot guns from FBI agents as part of the FBI Citizens Academy.
  5. I didn't try avocado until after college, and I’ve been trying to make up for lost time ever since!
