CASSELBERRY, Fla. — Jan Delaney says when she’s leaving her Indian Hills neighborhood on Kewannee Trail in Casselberry, she encounters a problem at State Road 436.
When Delaney wants to drive straight through the intersection and into the shopping plaza on the other side of SR-436, she says drivers turning left from the opposite direction often don't yield to her, and instead, turn in front of her.
“I have been out here in the middle of the road and a car whipped right in front of me,” Delaney said.
She says drivers coming from the opposite direction turn left in front of her, apparently assuming she’s going to turn, instead of traveling straight.
“I'm heading straight across and trying to watch that truck to see if he was going to let me in or not,” she said.
Delaney said she thinks a dedicated left turn arrow and turn lane would help.
Officials from Florida Department of Transportation's traffic operations, though, say they evaluated the intersection and found no reported crashes in the past 36 months related to left turn movements.
An FDOT spokesman said having a left turn arrow would unnecessarily increase the delay for the mainline movements, and the intersection as a whole.
“It can it can be scary, especially when I've got my kiddos in here,” Delaney said.
Delaney said because state officials don't have plans to make any changes at the intersection, she will just have to be extra vigilant as she travels through it.
