VERSAILLES, Ky. — The Kentucky Community and Technical College System said it will get $90 million to fund building projects for three colleges after Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Ky., signed off on House Joint Resolution 34, passed by the Kentucky General Assembly.
The projects will accelerate KCTCS' mission of providing education, training and workforce development for the Bluegrass State's essential industries. The funds were originally appropriated in House Bill 6 in the 2024 legislative session.
“I appreciate the efforts put forward by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System to identify projects that will provide the most benefit to Kentuckians and look forward to seeing the impact these facilities will have in the system’s mission,” said State Rep. Jason Petrie, R-Elkton, and House Appropriations and Revenue Committee chairman.
"Through higher education, Kentuckians can achieve their goals and help build a better future for everyone in our commonwealth,” Beshear said. “By making sure we have the best campuses and programs, means our students can chase their dreams, no matter how big, right here at home.”
The funding will support the following projects, KCTCS said:
- Somerset Community College: Plans include consolidating the Laurel North and South Campuses by building an advanced technical building at the Laurel North Campus. The new building will provide modern classrooms and workshops.
- Jefferson Community and Technical College: KCTCS said this project is in the second phase of replacing Hartford Hall, which is no longer compliant with building codes and cannot offer modern science instruction. The new facility will provide safe and accessible labs for science classes.
- Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College: Funds will be used for the first phase of construction of a consolidated campus in Glasgow, replacing an outdated health campus housed in the old tuberculosis hospital dormitory buildings and a triple-wide trailer.
“We extend our sincere thanks to our legislators and Gov. Beshear for their continued support of our mission to align robust academic and technical programming to the workforce and career needs of our students,” said KCTCS President Ryan Quarles.
