TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Zoo has a new addition: a baby ring-tailed lemur, just in time to celebrate the Zoo's 125th anniversary.

This is the first of its kind born at the Toledo Zoo since 2017. The baby boy was born to mom Fanta and dad Echo on March 10, the zoo said. This is Fanta's sixth baby, and the zoo said they are thriving together.

The baby and mom have the option to venture on exhibit in Primate Forest, but the zoo said on weekends, they can be found in the dayrooms.

Ring-tailed lemurs are endangered, according to the Smithsonian National Zoo. Endangered Species International states their population size as decreased by 95% within nearly two decades, due to habitat loss from deforestation.

They reside in southwestern Madagascar, in open areas and forests. They have a lifespan of around 16 years, and they eat leaves, flowers and insects, as well as fruit herbs and small vertebrates.
