RALEIGH, N.C. — A new traffic app aims to make streets surrounding N.C. State University safer.

What You Need To Know

  •  New traffic app, YU2X, recently launched in the N.C. State University area

  •  It uses multimodal connected vehicle technology to make commuting safer

  •  Equipment to gather the data is located at more than two dozen intersections around NCSU

  • The app is free and available to the public

The YU2X app is part of a new pilot program that uses multimodal connected vehicle technology to make it safer for drivers, bikers and pedestrians.

Sensors at more than two dozen intersections gather real-time data for the app.

"Our goal is to keep people safe," said Kim Deaner, public information officer for NCDOT. “We are going to gather as much data as we need to determine if it worked and if it is efficient and worked well, then we will want to and hope to implement it in other areas of the state."

The app is free and available to the public.

NCDOT says no personal data will be collected during the pilot program.
