A woman was killed in a crash on a slick highway in Winston-Salem early Monday morning, according to police.

The wreck happened just after 3:30 a.m. on US-52 northbound, just past the Patterson Avenue overpass.

Police said the driver, identified as Roshena Mason, lost control of the car and crashed into several trees. No other vehicles were involved.

"The overpass was found to be slick due to weather conditions," police said.

Mason was pronounced dead on scene, police said. A passenger in the vehicle went to the hospital and is expected to be OK.

A wintry mix fell early Monday in parts of the Piedmont and mountains, making roads slippery, and rain is the forecast for much of the state through the day.
