COLUMBIA, S.C.— According to City of Columbia leaders, Comet vehicles are used to transport disabled residents, however they're saying several of the buses need replacing.
The board is going over ideas that will help them secure new buses to avoid maintenance issues that effect the agency’s Dial-A-Ride Transit service, also known as DART.
Disabled Richland County residents rely on this transportation service to get to and from work, school, shopping, appointments, and other needs.
There are currently 22 DART shuttles that have been identified as well past their mark, some of which are nearing nine years of service.
The board is working on approving the purchase of seven new vehicles. Those buses should arrive in about six months.
