Helene hammered the state with heavy rain and high winds on Friday, bringing devastating flooding and some tornadoes. The worst of the storm has come and gone, but the impacts are ongoing and still life-threatening in parts of the state.

Distribution sites

Asheville (water distribution)

  • Pack Square Park at 70 Court Plaza will distribute water from 1 p.m. until dark, or when supply runs out; 1 gallon per person given, maximum of 5 gallons per family; must bring your own container
  • The city says additional food and water has been ordered and will be made available in the coming days once it is received

Black Mountain (water distribution)

  • Ingles, 550 Highway 9, must bring containers

  • Brentwood Water Corporation office parking lot - 1911 Jamestown Road, Morganton, NC

Haywood County (water distribution)

  • Canton Plaza off of New Clyde Highway; water tanker available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for those in need; limit 1 gallon per person per day; must bring your own container
  • Maggie Fire Department at 2901 Soco Rd; water tanker available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; limit 1 gallon per person per day; must bring your own container
Haywood County Resuorce Hubs (supplies and meals)
  • The Pigeon Community Center at 450 Pigeon St, Waynesville; now a welcome center opened from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The center will provide meals daily at 2 p.m.. The center has power, water, shovels charging stations, trash bag and pet food available.

Henderson County Resource Hubs (water distribution and other supplies as available)

  • Distribution starts at noon on Monday, Sept. 30
  • Etowah Elementary - 20 Etowah School Road, Etowah, NC
  • Rugby Middle School - 3345 Haywood Road, Hendersonville, NC
  • East Henderson High School - 150 Eagle Pride Drive, East Flat, NC
  • North Henderson High School - 35 Fruitland Road, Hendersonville, NC

  • From Henderson County: "Each family unit will be provided supplies for one day’s meal, and water as it is available. Individuals are asked to enter the drive-through Resource Hubs and remain in their cars unless instructed otherwise by volunteers, to ensure an efficient process. In order for the Resource Hubs to function smoothly, efficiently, and safely, we ask for the public’s patience while waiting for their supplies. At this time, the Resource Hub operations are planned for today only. Details on future resource distribution, as well as donation acceptance instructions from the general public, will be communicated by the county as information is available."     

McDowell County (essential commodities)

  • Florence Baptist Church - 201 S Broadway St, Forest City, NC
  • Rutherford County Health Department - 221 Callahan Koon Road, Spindale, NC

  • Parks, Recreation and Lake Office - 658 Memorial Highway, Lake Lure - Open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Watauga County

Internet access

  • T-mobile satellite cell on trucks in Hendersonville and at Tractor Supply Co. in Asheville; others planned at Mission Hospital in Asheville, Cherokee County Emergency Operations Center in Murphy and in Cherokee
  • A temporary Verizon satellite trailer is located at the Family Justice Center at 35 Woodfin Street offering an opportunity for limited cellular reception within several city blocks of where it is parked
  • A T-mobile has set up satellite cellular on light trucks in Asheville providing cellular voice and data, along with Wi-Fi and charging stations. Trucks are located at Asheville Middle School at 211 S French Broad Ave and Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Community Center at 285 Livingston St

Debris pickup and disposal

Asheville

  • There will be no trash and recycling service in the City of Asheville until further notice

Henderson County

  • Henderson County Transfer Station will be open Sept. 30 at 7 a.m. accepting storm debris with normal fees. A free storm debris site is in the works and will be available soon.

Watauga County
