  • Training camp begins in late July with the team’s pre-season opener Aug. 10 at Cincinnati

Mandatory mini-camp means two things:

One, it signals the end of the NFL offseason and two, August, training camp, the pre-season and September kickoffs are inching closer.

Many of the Bucs’ veterans have already been working with the rookies and free agents during the teams OTAs that wrapped up last week.

A lot of the talk has surrounded the new offense being installed and how quarterback Baker Mayfield will attack it in his second season in Tampa Bay.

Also, another big story from mini-camp is that left tackle Tristan Wirfs will be in attendance – sort of.

Wirfs, who wants a new contract, is expected to attend but not participate in drills.

A 3-time Pro Bowl selection, Wirfs’ fifth-year option on his rookie deal will pay him $18 million this season.

The Bucs also will be looking at its revamped secondary.

Led by Antoine Winfield Jr., now the NFL’s best-paid safety, Tampa Bay’s defensive backfield also includes Jordan Whitehead, back with the Bucs after two seasons with the Jets.

The team will be watching how this mix, also including vets Jamel Dean and Zyon McCollum and newcomers Bryce Hall and rookie Tykee Smith, gel before September.

This mandatory mini-camp runs through Thursday, June 13.

Training camp begins in late July with the team’s pre-season opener Aug. 10 at Cincinnati ahead of the Sept.8 season opener at home against Washington.
