WORCESTER, Mass. — Calls for faster commuter rail service from Worcester to Boston appear to have been heard.

The MBTA is bringing back a weekday morning express train next month.

The express train service was cut last fall.

This new service starts in the morning on May 20, but there will not be a corresponding express train back to Worcester in the afternoon.

The train will arrive at Boston’s South Station at 8:45 a.m. and includes stops at Framingham and Lansdowne.

Earlier this month, we reported city leaders created a task force focusing on the need for an efficient commuter rail system and part of its goal was to return some form of express service.
