TEXAS — The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) asked power generators in Texas to delay or cancel planned power outages ahead of high temperatures this week, according to Reuters.

Though it’s still spring, Texas has already been feeling the heat. Temperatures this week are expected to be in the 80s in Central Texas and DFW, and in the 90s near San Antonio, the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo.

The warmer weather is expected to drive residents and businesses to increase power usage and utilize air conditioning systems more than usual.

The decision is "to help alleviate potential tight conditions through the evening," ERCOT said in an email to Reuters.

ERCOT has not asked residents to conserve power ahead of high temperatures.

Severe storms are possible across parts of northwest Texas with hail as the primary threat. Oncor encourages Texans to stay weather aware and follow these tips to prepare for possible outages.
