Samantha Narson is a multimedia journalist covering stories for Spectrum News 1 in Asheville and the mountain region of North Carolina.
Samantha grew up in sunny Miami Beach, alongside her family and now 19-year-old cat, Emerald. She discovered her passion for journalism while immersed in the University of Florida's telecommunication news program.
Samantha went on to focus on in-depth reporting as a reporter and anchor for PBS affiliate WUFT News and a writer for The Gainesville Sun.
In the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Samantha co-founded and executive produced a social media newscast “The Lede.” Today, the newscast employs over 40 journalists.
Her most memorable reporting experience was traveling to Houma, Louisiana for a special focusing on Hurricane Ida damage and recovery efforts. Samantha was also a guest journalist for the ABC affiliate documentary “Names Not Numbers,” a project to guide middle school students through interviews with Holocaust survivors.
Seeing her stories make a meaningful difference in the community is what Samantha believes to be the most rewarding part of being a journalist.
In her free time, Samantha loves do-it-yourself projects. From upcycling clothing to artwork, she enjoys bringing out her creative side.
