With Rodriguez out, Baeza, trained by John Shirreffs is in.

According to Tom Ryan, a managing partner of SF Racing Team with Baffert, wrote on social media, Rodriguez was pulled because of “a small but slightly sensitive foot bruise.” Ryan said they hope the horse will run in the Preakness in a couple of weeks.

Rodriguez earned his trip to the Derby with a gate-to-wire win in the Wood Memorial on April 5. The horse was a runner-up at Del Mar in his debut.

Baeza, owned by C R K Stable LLC and Grandview Equine, came in second in the Santa Anita Derby on April 5.

The Kentucky Derby has a full 20 horse field, but scratch time for the Derby is Friday at 9 a.m. There are no other horses qualified for the Derby if there is another scratch
