In the evening and overnight, some rain is possible along and east of I-35. A couple of storms could mix in and become strong, producing small hail and gusty winds. Otherwise, we will be warm and muggy under partly to mostly cloudy skies by the morning.
As high pressure draws in from the southeast, heat will build across Texas Friday through the upcoming weekend. Expect temperatures to rise to the mid-90s in North Texas and the upper 90s to 100 degrees in Central and South-Central Texas. Our hottest temperatures are expected in McAllen and Brownsville, with 105-107 possible.
With our humidity values holding, peak heat index values rise into the 105 to 110 degree range across the southern half of the state. Please practice heat safety and know the symptoms of heat illness.
Tropical outlook: No development over the next five to seven days around the Gulf is expected.
