FERGUSON, Mo. — A man is dead and a suspect is in custody after a shooting late Wednesday morning inside a Home Depot in Ferguson.

Police say officers responded to a call for shots fired at 11:06 a.m. at the store on New Halls Ferry Road. Officers arrived within three minutes and found a victim with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Ferguson police say surveillance video shows an altercation happened in the store and led to shots being fired. The department quickly issued a regional alert with details on the suspect and vehicle. St. Louis County officers located the suspect in Spanish Lake and arrested him shortly after.

“Our officers acted quickly to gather and share critical information, and that teamwork led to the safe apprehension of the suspect,” said Ferguson Police Chief Troy Doyle in a statement. “I have full confidence our investigators will be able to present this case to the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office very soon.”

Police say this was not a random act of violence, but the motive remains under investigation.
