ST. LOUIS — A fifth grader is representing the St. Louis area in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
11-year-old Khushbu Dahal, a student at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, discussed how she prepares and what it's like being on stage in front of hundreds of others.
"Well, there's a lot of people looking at you so you feel a bit of tension but the judges are also really nice," she said.
Dahal is one of seven students representing Missouri, but is the only one representing the St. Louis area. Other competitors include:
- Ananya Aggarwal, 12, from Columbia, Mo.
- Beckett Griffin, 11, from Independence, Mo.
- William Henley, 12, from Peculiar, Mo.
- Scott Tingle, 14, from Poplar Bluff, Mo.
- Kunal Patel, 12, from Rolla, Mo.
- Natalie Linthicum, 14, from St. Joseph, Mo.
