ST. LOUIS —The St. Louis Metropolitan Police officer who was injured on Interstate 70 last week was discharged from Barnes Jewish Hospital Wednesday.

SLMPD officers escorted Nathan Spiess with his friends and family from the hospital to a private location to continue his healing process. The escort proceeded west on Barnes Jewish Hospital Plaza and continued south onto South Kingshighway, and headed onto westbound Interstate 64.

The 31-year-old officer had his leg partially amputated after he was struck trying to arrest a suspect related to a carjacking investigation last week.

Two men have been charged in the incident. Spiess underwent three successful surgeries while at BJC. He has nearly six years of service to the department and was shot in the line of duty in 2022.
