ST. LOUIS — Local radio personality Brian McKenna, 61, was fatally hit by a car early Saturday morning, according to police.
St. Louis Metropolitain Police say the preliminary investigation reveals the vehicle was traveling south on Hampton around 1a.m. as McKenna was walking west across Hampton, mid-block, between Nottingham and Murdoch. Paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene.
The driver was not injured and remained at the site of the crash.
"This morning we recieved the horrible news of the passing of our friend, Brian McKenna," wrote Joe Bommarito on social media. "Brian was an incredible person who brought a smile to your face by simply seeing him walk into the room. His charismatic personality was infectious. His positive attitude, toughness, as well as his sense of humor, during his battles to beat cancer was inspiring to everyone that knew him. Brian had a passion for helping others. Whether it was something he would do, such as his volunteer work or just something he would say."
McKenna, a graduate of Lindbergh High School, was known to promote fundraisers on air, raising thousands for local charities. Community members gave back during McKenna's years-long battle with cancer.
The Accident Reconstruction Team is handling the ongoing investigation.
