ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Board of Education on Tuesday named Dr. Millicent Borishade the Superintendent of Saint Louis Public Schools. Board members voted 4-1 in favor of Borishade, who has been interim Superintendent since July 2024.

In the special board meeting on Tuesday, Board President Toni Cousins said Borishade is consistently committed to SLPS families and staff.

“Dr. Borishade has demonstrated strong, thoughtful leadership during her time as Interim Superintendent,” Cousins said.  “Her focus on student achievement, operational excellence, and building strong community partnerships has been invaluable. We’re excited to continue working with her as she leads SLPS forward.”

SLPS officials say Borishade will meet with the district’s new transportation vendor next week.

Former superintendent Dr. Keisha Scarlett was fired after a year on the job, facing scrutiny for questionable spending. A state audit is currently underway.

In light of Scarlett’s dismissal, several board members decided not to seek re-election. A vacancy created in January was also filled at the special meeting. Ben Conover will be sworn into the Board in early March.

“Having a full board is critical to the work we do as a district,” Borishade said.  “I’m looking forward to working with Mr. Conover and the entire Board as we continue to focus on what’s best for our students, schools, and community.”
