ST LOUIS–Saint Louis City showed off their Forever City Red kit that players and fans will don this year.
“A new coach, new faces on the pitch, a new stadium name, and of course – an amazing new kit,” said Carolyn Kindle, CEO of St. Louis City SC. “For this new kit we’re going all in on our signature color which is fitting because the name of our new kit is the ‘Forever City Red Kit.’
Kindle praised the fanbase for its remarkable support of the team in its first two years of existence, the culture being established and traditions already being set.
“When we wear City Red, it means something. It stands for something and we are doubling down on this iconic color and all that it represents with this new kit.”
The kit’s color, CITY red, is used exclusively for the team by Adidas.
“This color has become a regional phenomenon,” said Matt Sebek, Chief Experience Officer for City SC. “You see it across St. Louis. You see it on stickers on the backs of cars, on flags, on homes, from Chesterfield to Tower Grove, on our players here at Energizer Park or across the globe on Apple TV so we really, really, wanted to lean in to that.”
Kindle mentioned she’d received pictures of fans in CITY SC attire from across the globe including a picture in front of the Tower of Pisa.
Notable differences from the original kit include white stripes on top of the sleeves, a single button collar and five diagonal stripes crossing the front multiple times honoring the five Saint Louis players from the Hill that were victorious over England in the 1950 U.S. World Cup 75 years ago.
“Not only is it perhaps the greatest world cup upset ever, I would make an argument that it’s among the greatest upsets of all time in the world of sports,” said Ty Keough, son of Harry Keough who played for the U.S. in the 1950 World Cup. “It was done even more miraculously because these guys were amateurs, they never got paid to play – but it’s entirely different when you think about in England they’d had a professional league at that time for like 60 years and these guys went up against them in a World Cup.”
Founding sponsor PURINA continues its presence on the chest as well as BJC Healthcare on the sleeve. The St. Louis City flag and Adidas logo also return in similar fashion as the previous kit.
Fans may buy the new apparel at the team store on Market Street or on City SC’s website.
