ST LOUIS CITY–A 54-year-old man was arrested by St Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) District 6 detectives on Wednesday for involuntary manslaughter related to the death of Gladys Anthony. She passed away during surgery on the morning of January 16 due to injuries she sustained from a neighbor’s three dogs mauling her the night before.

The case was sent to the Circuity Attorney's office but charges were refused due to a lack of evidence said a spokesperson for SLMPD. St. Louis City Department of Health confirmed the dogs were euthanized on January 24.

Following the Circuity Attorney's Office refusing the charges, Mitch McCoy, Director of Public Affairs and Information for SLMPD released a statement, "the death of Gladys Anthony is a complete tragedy and St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department detectives worked with the Circuit Attorney's Office to carefully review the facts of the case. If any new evidence comes to light, SLMPD will review it and notify the Circuit Attorney's Office."

Anthony saw her dog being attacked by the three dogs and succeeded at stopping them from killing her beloved pet. The trio turned on her until her husband and shortly later police came to her aid. She was taken to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries in surgery. Police canvassed the neighborhood and found the dogs entering a neighbor’s yard from which they resided.

“There have been two prior calls at this address for animal control dating back to Fall 2022,” revealed Justen Hauser, Environmental Health Bureau Chief during an afternoon press conference on January 16.

“We want people to feel safe in their neighborhood, they have a right to feel safe in their neighborhood and we’re going to expect that,” said McCoy at the January 16 press conference.
