ST. LOUIS COUNTY–Mercy South off Kennerly Road in Sappington, Mo., is adding a new endocrinology clinic and expanding its team to fill the new clinic’s needs with the hiring of Doctor Fadi Siyam.
“Meeting the needs of this community is exactly why I joined the Mercy South team. I want to provide care for patients who need it close to their homes,” Dr. Siyam said in a press release. “I’m a proud St. Louisan. I’m excited about joining a Mercy team well known for its excellent service to the community and for its inclusive medical society.”
The clinic will serve patients suffering from diseases or functionality of glands and hormones such as the health of the pancreas (including diabetes), thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and pituitary glands.
“The endocrine system is a very interesting one. It is small in volume but there's actually very big in effect,” said Dr. Siyam when Spectrum News sat down with him in the new clinic. "Glands basically effect the bodily function and the physical abilities of the person on an everyday basis. So they can actually be debilitating if untreated but on the other hand if treated can secure a natural, normal, healthy life for the patient."
Dr. Siyam grew up in a family of pharmacists and took to his own career naturally.
“So apparently that played a big role, may be on a subconcious level.”
He’s loved learning about the impact of medicine on the human body since high school. At the end of his first week of residency for endocrinology, he knew where his profession would lead.
"Endocrinology was the one where I finished my first week and was like, 'I'll be doing this to the end of my life.' The science of it is very elegant, it's very beautiful– the impact it has on the life and health of the patient is just significantly big." Siyam adds he enjoys seeing patients improve and building relationships with them.
On average, the clinic sees 20 patients per day including existing and new patients. The Mercy Clinic Endocrinology is at the Southfork Suite 205, within the Medical Plaza building across Schuessler Road from Mercy Hospital South.
