ST. LOUIS—On Wednesday morning, a tractor-trailer crash killed one woman driving on I-44 near Vandeventer, according to police.
Officials say the truck driver stated he looked away from the road to pick up a drink and struck the woman’s vehicle. The vehicle then fell from the right shoulder barrier of I-44 onto Vandeventer Avenue.
Missouri Department of Transportation cameras show part of the truck hanging off of the interstate.
The 34-year-old driver was taken to a hospital but died shortly after from her injuries. No other parties were injured, according to police. The truck driver was immediately temporarily detained for a blood test, but police say he hasn’t been arrested.
Neither driver’s identity has been released and the investigation is ongoing.
