ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY, Mo. — A woman and two boys died in a car crash Tuesday after the vehicle went off the road.

A 28-year-old woman, of Valley Mines, was driving on Route OO in St. Francois County when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).

She was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Francois County coroner. Two boys, aged four and six, were transported to hospitals.

The six-year-old was pronounced dead at the Parkland Health Center in Farmington and the four-year-old was pronounced dead at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

All three were wearing seat belts, according to MSHP.

The patrol reported 65 vehicle crashes where 38 were injuried across the state during the 30-hour Christmas count period, which began at 6 p.m. Tuesday and ended at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.

MSHP also reported 17 DWIs during that time.

No drownings or boating fatalities were reported. There were no traffic fatalities on Wednesday.

Last year, there were 1,034 traffic crashes during the 78-hour Christmas counting period statewide where three were killed and 346 were injured, according to MSHP.

In 2023, there were 124 traffic crashes that included two fatalities and 71 injuries. A total of 81 people were arrested during that time for driving while impaired.
