ST. LOUIS — Police have arrested a man allegedly responsible for the death of Colin Brown, the high school hockey player who was shot while riding in a car driving down Interstate 55.

26-year-old Garrett Jordon III has been charged with first-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and three counts of armed criminal action. Local police used cell phone tracing technology to trace Jordon's involvement, St. Louis police chief Robert Tracy said Friday.

"Despite the arrested charges, it won't bring Colin back. As a father myself, I pray this could bring a sense of relief and peace to Colin's family," Tracy said. "We're going to leverage everything we can to try to bring someone to justice and some closure to this family."

Brown was the son of retired Lieutenant Colonel Calvin Brown of the llinois State Police. Brendan Kelly, director of the Illinois State Police said they will continue to aid local and federal authorities with the investigation.

"The FBI's violent crime task force has searched the streets to assist with this investigation," said Ashley Johnson, Special Agent in Charge for the FBI in St. Louis. "Since day one, we've increased our manpower. We've obtained a great amount of analytical intelligence data and we have assisted with the execution of several search warrants in multiple locations."

Brown was a passenger in a car heading north on I-55 around 10:30 p.m. last month when police say he was shot by a stray bullet. He passed away from his injuries on Nov. 27, just four days after being shot. He was a member of the CBC varsity hockey team and the O’Fallon Panther Hockey club.

Police say they're still investigating the case and ask the public to contact CrimeStoppers to annonymously report additional information. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
