ST. LOUS COUNTY – St. Louis County Parks announced they’ll welcome “The Wall That Heals” to Jefferson Barracks as they celebrate their 75th anniversary next year.
A three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and a mobile education center will be open 24 hours a day between July 24-27 during summer 2025.
The 7.5 foot and 375 foot long wall honors more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. armed forces during the Vietnam War. The names of the 58,281 men and women who died in service engraved on its surface. Visitors can do name rubbings of the fallen.
"We are honored to host The Wall That Heals at the Jefferson Barracks Historic Site, a place rich in history and a cornerstone of our community” said Saint Louis County Executive Dr. Sam Page. “As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Saint Louis County Parks and Recreation Department, this exhibit offers a moment of reflection and gratitude for the sacrifices made by our nation’s service members."
“The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is pleased to bring The Wall That Heals mobile exhibit to St. Louis County, Missouri, to allow local veterans and their family members a chance to experience The Wall,” said Jim Knotts, president and CEO of VVMF. “Hosting The Wall That Heals provides an opportunity to honor and remember all those who served and sacrificed in the Vietnam War and educate visitors on the continuing impact of the Vietnam War on America.”
County Councilman, Ernie Trakas, says it’ll be a proud moment for St. Louis County.
“It will provide our residents the opportunity to honor those who gave the last full measure of devotion to secure our freedom and liberty and also provide today’s generation a better understanding of a critical time in our history,” said Trakas.
Since 1996, the Wall has been on display in nearly 800 domestic communities. It’s also been on display in the Four Provinces of Ireland (1999) and Canada (2005). The Wall is run by the VVMF, the same organization who built the memorial in Washington, D.C. in 1982. More information can be found on the Wall that Heals website.
