ST. LOUIS – A Tarleton contractor was taken to a local hospital after being rescued from a Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) channel in between tanks at the Bissell Point Wastewater Treatment.

According to MSD, the contractor fell into a channel while working on the fine screens construction project, a project to replace comminutors, a machine that shreds or grinds solid materials in wastewater to reduce their particle size, with fine screens will more efficiently remove debris from wastewater.

Other contractors on site put a call out on the radio and MSD immediately turned off the processes around the channel so the contractor could be freed.

The channels usually have grates over the top of them. MSD isn’t sure if a grate was open at the time.
